DEIA Committee

Our Mission:

To uphold and advocate for the values of diversity, equity, accessibility, and inclusion. We believe strongly in these values and in a world where everyone is included, welcome, and treated with dignity and respect. We seek to advocate for these values by promoting policies, opportunities, and cultural awareness for historically underserved groups.

The DEAI Committee has sought to help increase inclusion and cultural awareness through free community educational events. UNA-BC has hosted allyship events that included renowned anti-racism authors Paul Kivel and Francisco Jimenez. These events were free or donation based and also highlighted the voices of organizations such as the Colorado Immigrant Rights Coalition and Engaged Latino Parents Advancing Student Outcomes, which all donations from their respective events went to. We are currently developing a no cost or donation based DEAI Training Program for the community and other organizations to help spread increased DEAI awareness.

For UN Day in 2023 we were able to feature a community showing of the documentary This is [Not] Who We Are by Katrina Miller and Beret Strong.

We were fortunate to be able to host a live Q & A with Ms. Miller and one of the main subjects of the film, Zayd Atkinson, engaged in a community discussion around racism in Boulder. This event raised money for the Center for African and African American Studies at CU Boulder.

Additionally, the DEAI Committee has used grassroots efforts to directly increase equity in minority communities. Some of these efforts include our Affordable Connectivity and College Savings Fund events, coat drives, and our Black Owned Business promotional campaign.

Lastly, in order to best serve the community without “reinventing the wheel” we have joined with other organizations to create a DEAI Coalition Collaborative and share ideas, resources, and support. We also are proud to stand as allies of the LGBTQAI+ community and are proud to show our support through Boulder Pride Festival and our recent Transgender Proud Event featuring renowned photojournalist Sal Skog.
